Who was Acharya Sir Prafulla Chandra Ray?
Usually when we get time off from school or work, we use it to relax and unwind. But when Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray had to discontinue his studies for some years because of ill health, he chose to read and continue studying! This Bengali chemist and educator spent many years researching ancient Sanskrit manuscripts and authored a book - A History of Hindu Chemistry from the Earliest Times to the Middle of the Sixteenth Century. He was honored by the Royal Society of Chemistry with the first ever Chemical Landmark Plaque outside Europe. This was because of his passionate work in the field of Science, and particularly Chemistry. Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, a prolific writer, the publisher of 107 papers on Chemistry, and founder of the Indian School of Chemistry was knighted 1917 for his contributions to science.
